The award-winning Turbospoke - Bicycle Exhaust System is a unique toy and a bicycle accessory that transforms any bike to have the look and sound of a motorbike. Using durable plastic sound cards held in the path of the revolving bicycle spokes, Turbospoke generates awesome realistic engine sounds. The sounds are then amplified through the realistic megaphone exhaust pipe so kid’s bikes look and sound like a real motorbike. What's more, all this works without the need for any batteries or electronics, it's 100% pedal powered!

Turbospoke has become a proud sponsor of Sustrans, the leading UK charity that encourages people to travel by foot, by bike or by public transport. With more than 20 years of experience, Sustrans has created the National Cycling Network (NCM), a series of safe, traffic-free paths and on-road cycling and walking routes that connect to every major town and city. The Network passes within a mile of half of all UK homes and now stretches over 14,000 miles.
At Turbospoke we are strong believers in the benefits of cycling, especially for kids. Children love cycling because it gives them freedom and independence to get around, all the while providing a wonderful and enjoyable way to get exercise. When we discovered Sustrans and what they were doing, we immediately wanted to be part of the movement! That’s why we have sponsored 5 miles around the UK of the National Cycling Network. We want everybody to choose ‘healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys’ with Sustrans and Turbospoke.

We all know childhood obesity is a growing problem. Today, one in four children are overweight or obese. This research has been done by the European Organisation; Safe Food and suggests that, if there is not treatment, 85% of these children will become obese adults. This statistic alone is reason enough to address weight issues in the early years. The Association MoreLife describes that ‘like adult obesity, childhood obesity has many influencing factors, but essentially is caused by taking in more energy than they are using up over a long period of time’.
So it’s not all about food, it is about how active they are too. The recommended amount of physical activity for school children is at least 60 minutes per day, or 7 hours a week. The research has shown that kids spend, on average, 52 hours in front of a screen each week. TV, internet and computer games are all taking time away from them being active. We also know that sometimes getting children active can be a little bit tricky. We believe the secret resides in transforming physical activity into fun. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring! It can be incorporated into their everyday lives. Activities such walking to school, family days out, hiking, swimming or bicycle riding are all ways to combine fun at the same time.

Talking about turning exercise into fun, we are proud to say that Turbospoke – the Bicycle Exhaust System is one of the best alternatives to encourage children to be active. It fits to any kid’s bike and transforms it to look and sound like a motorbike. Such a different and exciting cycling experience. The best part? It doesn't use any batteries or electronics. It’s 100% kid powered! It encourages active outdoor play (the more they pedal the better it sounds) and kids absolutely love it. From cycling to school to cycling with their friends, Turbospoke will help to improve the agility, balance and co-ordination, providing better energy levels for kids and of course, better night’s sleep.
Turbospoke has been awarded Gold in the 2012 Toyology Outdoor Toy Awards! Turbospoke faced off stiff competition from leading toy brands to walk away with a win in the 'Best Accessory' category of the coveted awards.
The Toyology awards are unlike any other because all of the winners are chosen by kids! 30 Children formed the judging panel at this years awards. The result of this was best summed up by Lewis Tyler of Toy News who said
“The Toyology Outdoor Toy Award winners were decided entirely by kids – which makes the event genuinely unique, and also means the winners badge is proof that a product actually provides a level of play that children respect”.
We are extremely proud of the award here at Turbospoke and have posted it onto the front page of our website, look!
A big thank you to Peter Jenkinson of Toyology for coordintaing the awards and of course to the judging panel for choosing Turbospoke!
